Edit or Play Sim not working after changing main sim folder (also with Station Edition)

Users have reported that the program hangs (black screen with gears rotating but no progress on sim loading) when trying to play or edit a sim, if the sim folder is specified as the root (top) of a disk drive, for example, you select "C:" as where to put the sims. Therefore, you must create at least one sub-folder on the drive on which you want to store sims, for example, C:\CommonSims.

This error occurs after you've either changed the Main Sim Folder (Personal and Station Editions) or set an additional common sim folder (simfolders.xml) for all users in the Station Edition. You can find out more about creating sim folders for the Station Edition in the Station Edition documentation.
